An individual directed retreat is a time of relaxation and rest in the presence of God.  It is an opportunity to focus on your relationship with God—particularly regarding prayer and your interactions with others.  You will find your daily rhythm of prayer, relaxation, and reflection in an atmosphere of silence, peace, and calm—all of which are essential to a directed retreat.

 A formal prayer life is not necessary prior to engaging in a directed retreat.  All you need is a desire to spend time with God in silence and solitude and a willingness to share your prayer experiences with your Spiritual Director.

 The Cenacle Retreat House offers individual rooms, prayer areas, and acres of quiet space in which to reflect.  Retreatants can walk the bayou trail and our outdoor labyrinth, relax in a hammock or swing, or simply sit outside and read or reflect.  A massage therapist is available upon request.

 Ä Silent retreats, given on a one-to-one basis by experienced spiritual directors, planned with and for you—from a few days to a month.

 Ä Include a daily meeting with your director to reflect on your retreat experience and what is happening in your prayer, to receive guidance in ways to proceed and help in prayer and discernment.  The director does not chart the course of the retreat - God does.  The director simply helps the retreatant to name and claim the experiences.

 Ä Use Scripture as a source of prayer (other sources may also be used).  Directors are trained in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and in the adaptation of them - or other prayer methods - according to the needs of the individual.
